PPUI National Convention 2012 - Former FIPPA President honoured
Mervyn Cooney was inducted into the Pitch and Putt Union of Ireland Hall of Fame on 25 February. The former FIPPA President received the accolade at National Convention in the Abbeyleix Manor Hotel. Mervyn is the 26th recipient of this honour. The citation read:
For a hugely productive term as P.P.U.I. Competitions Secretary, which delivered many innovations, including the twinning of the National Ladies and Gents Matchplay championships and the extension of the National Strokeplay championships to the exciting 54 hole format.
For a rarely equalled devotion to his club, having served it in every capacity imaginable for over forty years. For contributing richly to the international development strategy, serving two memorable terms as President of EPPA and FIPPA during which his inspiring speeches and quiet diplomacy did much to further Pitch and Putt expansion abroad. For being one of the all-time great Presidents of the P.P.U.I., a man of immense vision, tremendous wisdom and terrific charisma with a ready acumen for the administration of Pitch and Putt. For his incalculable contribution to our Union over the past three decades.
The P.P.U.I. Hall of Fame Award goes to Mervyn Cooney (St. Patrick's).
