MARC GARCIA WINS IN CATALONIA

Marc Garcia of Fornells calmly maintained a three shot lead and won the Catalan Open at Sant Cebria with a 14 under par aggregate of 148. The eighteen year old closed with a 53 to add to his superb Saturday rounds of 47 and 48. The youngster finished ahead of his fellow Catalans Enric Sanz and Daniel Gimenez. The bearded Sanz fired a closing 50 to take second slot on the tiebreaker from Gimenez who carded a final round 52. Best non Catalans were Irishmen Eoin Mithen and William Buckley, who both finished on 10 under. Mithen scored a 50 last round to shade 4th place. Marilyn Holmes of Catalonia was best lady on 161.

Young Catalan Marc Garcia Pinto will take a four shot lead into the final round at the Catalan Open in Sant Cebria. Garcia was in irrepressible form, scoring rounds of 47 and 48 to be 13 under par overnight. Garcia's nearest challenger in Sunday's final round will be his fellow Catalan, Daniel Gimenez. Gimenez carded Saturday rounds of 48 and 51 for a 9 under par aggregate of 99. Third is former Irish Strokeplay champion William Buckley Junior who is eight under after scores of 48 and 52. Another Catalan Marilyn Holmes is strongly placed in the ladies event on 105.

Garcia fired a superb opening 47 in cold but fine conditions to lead by a shot after the opening round. 2004 Catalan Open winner William Buckley Junior (Ireland) was in second place at that stage on 48 alongside World Strokeplay champion Fernando Cano (Catalonia). Leading lady in the first round was Catalan Marilyn Holmes who carded 53.
