A THIRD CATALAN OPEN TITLE FOR MARCAL MORE IN LLORET

Hail Marcal More. At the Lloret Papalus course in Lloret de Mar on the Costa Brava, the ultra cool Catalan won his third Catalan Open inside four years. More, who previously won at Hcap 1 in 2008 and at Mas Pages year ago, fired a brilliant closing 50 to defeat Catalonia international colleague Marc Lloret by three shots. More´s 149 aggregate was thirteen under par in very warm conditions. Overnight leader Lloret was still tied for the lead with nine to play but a triple bogey six at the long downhill 10th was a major blow. Another Catalan Eric Puig shot a fine final round to place third on the tiebreaker ahead of World Strokeplay Fernando Cano who closed with a level par 54 for a 153 total. Completing a Catalan clean sweep was Albert Girones whose final round 52 gave him fifth slot on the countback. Best non Catalan was Ireland´s MarK Millar who finished sixth on 154.

There was another Catalan success in the ladies event. Overnight joint leader Abby Nachson held on with a final round of 59 for 171, two shots clear of Catalan legend Pilar Montero. Top seniors were Ireland´s Dermot Wogan (166), Andorran Francesc Gaset (167) and Anders Chr Juel (Norway) on 169.

The first two rounds of the Catalan Open were played in glorious sunny conditions on Saturday. Leading Catalan Marc Lloret fired rounds of 47 and 51 for a ten under par aggregate of 98. Lloret held a one shot lead over fellow Catalans Fernando Cano and Marcal More. Next best on 100 was Ireland's Eamon Gibney who shot matching rounds of 50. Ireland's Mark Millar, a former two time Matchplay winner in the Emerald Isle, returned 101. A group of four lay tied on six under par 102, Pacelli Darcy of Ireland and the Catalan trio - Jordi Salva, Javier Lopez and Albert Girones. Holland's Herma Kleinlugtenbeld and Abby Nachson (Catalonia) were the leading ladies on 112, which was four ahead of Margarita Robledo (Catalonia) and which was five strokes clear of the Catalan star Pilar Montero.
