CATALAN PAIRS 2014
Ireland's Liam O'Donovan and Pacelli Darcy led from start to finish in the 2014 International Pairs Tournament at Lloret Papalus. O'Donovan and Darcy carded a 47 in Sunday's fourball better ball to end the tournament on 19 under par 143. That was good enough for just a single stroke victory over fellow Irish pair John Walsh and Chris Scannell who fired 45 on Sunday. The World Strokeplay champion Walsh and his experienced clubmate Scannell (who captained Ireland to the 2003 European Team championship) were left rueing their sluggish Saturday foursomes score of 53. Just another shot back, Catalans Enric Sanz and Josep Martinez were third on 145. Two of Sanz's colleagues on Catalonia's European Team championship winning side - Jordi Serra and Dani Gimenez - were 4th on 148 marginally ahead of Irish father and son combination Weeshie and Shane Murphy and the holders Manel Martinez and Miquel Roger (Catalonia) on the tiebreak.
Final leaderboard
All to play for with just the fourball better ball round to play in the International Pairs tournament at the Lloret Papalus. Irish pair Liam O'Donovan (the reigning Irish Strokeplay champion) and Pacelli Darcy fired 46 and 50 in their respective greensome and foursome rounds. That left O'Donovan and Darcy 12 under par on 96. Just a single shot behind were two Catalan pairs - the holders Manel Martinez and Miquel Roger, who were alongside Enric Sanz and Josep Martinez. Three pairs returned 99 - World Strokeplay champion John Walsh and Chris Scannell, who are level with the Irish father and son combination Weeshie and Shane Murphy and two of Catalonia's European Team championship winning side - Jordi Serra and Dani Gimenez.
