INTERNATIONAL LADIES OPEN WIN FOR MARIAN BYRNE
Following the inaugural ladies international on September 13th 2000, the Irish international team along with other Irish players, Margaret Byrne, Bernie Dunne, Tara Dillon and Breda Coffey also contested a 36 hole Open Amateur Tournament at Tolcinasco on September 14/15, hosted by Federazione Italiana Pitch and Putt (the Italian Pitch and Putt Federation).
Irish international captain Geraldine Ward led after Day One with a fine four under par 50. Geraldine also held the advantage for most of the second day but a bogey at the 75 metre closing hole dropped her into a tie with Marian Byrne (St. Bridget's). Marian, the former two-time national ladies champion and Ireland's No. 1 ranked player in 1998 and 1999 took the title by virtue of her better second 18 holes, 51 to Geraldine's 53.
Another member of the Irish international team, four handicapper Claire Murphy took the Handicap 0-9 category with a 97 nett.
