CATALAN OPEN - SABORIT WINS PLAY-OFF
A three way tie at Teia in the Catalan Open. The experienced Jordi Saborit (Catalonia) fired a fine 49 on Sunday to set the clubhouse target on ten under par 152. Playing together in the final group, Jordi Serra (Catalonia) and Ireland's Kieran Earls were both round in 51 to finish level with Saborit. Saborit won the play-off. Former three time champion Marcal More finished fourth on nine under with Eamon Gibney (Ireland) fifth on 154. Overnight leader Pepe Garcia faded with a 55 but his aggregate of 155 won the senior event by three from Catalan Juan Marti. Abby Nachson (Catalonia) won the Catalan Ladies Open for the third time. Abby closed with a 52 for a 54 hole aggregate of 159, good enough for a five stroke cushion over Marilyn Holmes (Catalonia).
