Frank Johnson dominates
A home win in the inaugural Norwegian Open at Imjelt. In breezier conditions on Sunday, Frank Johnson maintained his 36 hole advantage. A third successive 50 (impressive scoring on a tough course) gave Johnson a six stroke winning margin over another Norwegian Tony Eder, who fired a 50 on Sunday morning after earlier rounds of 55 and 51. Jan Andersen closed with a level par 54 to place third on 156, losing on the final 18. Dutchman Wilfred Smidt carded a closing 51 to be best non Norwegian on 157. Joletta Ottens (Holland) scored 56 on Sunday to finish best lady on one over 163. Second best lady was another Dutch player, Esther de Schiffart, whose 55 on Sunday edged Ireland's Liz Quinn into third place after a tie on 167. Frank Kristiansen capped a great weekend for Norwegian Pitch and Putt when his 158 aggregate garnered the award of Best Senior.

Four Norwegians were in the top four at Imjelt overnight. After beautifully sunny conditions for Saturday's first and second rounds, home player Frank Johnson led the way on eight under. On a superbly prepared course, Frank Johnson carded two brilliant rounds of 50 for a 100 overnight aggregate. In the final group on Sunday, Johnson played alongside fellow Norwegians, Anders Juel and Jan Andersen. Juel shot the lowest Saturday round, a 49 to add to his first round 53. Juel fired 52 and 50 for a matching six under par total. Best non Norwegian was Rene Jan Bloem of Holland (105). Joletta Ottens was one under par (107) to be the leading lady, just a single stroke clear of Ireland's Liz Quinn.
