WORLD INTERCLUB LEAGUE (WIL) - 2007

On the first weekend of August, hundreds of Pitch and Putt players worldwide will take to the first tee at their local course and begin what is a 5 month battle of endurance to lay claim to world interclub champions. Over that 5 month period, all teams will play 5 matches against opponents scattered around the world, weather conditions will change from one season to the next and team captains will need to use all their skills to keep players focussed, motiviated and in form.
Started in 2005 by Eero Tarik and Ramon Carrera, the first World Interclub League season was played with 8 teams from 4 continents and was such a success that even before the season finished other clubs were enquiring about how to take part the following year.
Seen as innovative and unique, the competition is emerging as one of the important tools for FIPPA as it reaches out to players worldwide.

In 2005 the competition was won by NPPV, a Dutch internet based group of players.

In 2006, over 300 players from 24 teams took part with WIL reaching out to Canada for the first time and bringing many Australian clubs into the global community.
Indeed, the competition was won by an Australian club, Canberra International.

Now in 2007, WIL will again bring clubs and players together in its 3rd season, and more innovations are on the way including a Fantasy division which will feature "teams" representing major population ares of the world which are not yet involved in WIL. The purpose of this is to allow the internet to work for us. As results are posted for teams from Tokyo, Shanghai, Los Angeles etc in the Fantasy division they will generate entries in search engines like Google. This means that when someone in Los Angeles, for example, looks for Pitch and Putt in their area, they will come across the World Interclub League and FIPPA and the chances of bringing new areas into the global family are increased. Scores for the teams in the Fantasy division will be generated from scores produced by players in all teams and randomly allocated.

Many people have referred to WIL as a "virtual" competition.
Now in a world first, this takes another twist. A group of players in a major internet based "virtual world" called Second Life have agreed to enter a team from the Holly Kai golf course in Second Life into the Fantasy division playing Pitch and Putt over FIPPA distances on their course.

WIL 2007 will tee off soon with more excitement than ever before, and plenty of innovation.

New teams are still welcome, all you need is a team of 8 players, of any ability or standard, it costs nothing and scores in your regular weekend competition can be used. - just contact us before the end of July.
Why not join us and the global Pitch and Putt community for a bit of international excitement from your home course.
