2007 European Summer Opens

This year saw the 7th running of the French Open, the most prestigious annual International event on the Pitch and Putt calendar and a must for those wishing to test themselves against the best in the world.

Once again magnificently run by Christian Auzière and his team at the La Grande Motte course in the south of France, the event attracted many international stars.

The competition started explosively when Dutch youngster, Jan Tijhuis, blasted his way to a course record in the opening round but was unable to sustain the effort through the heat of the day and made way for a trio of Irish players who took the top three placings in the mens division. Irish woman, Liz Quinn, also took the honours in the ladies making it an all Ireland affair.

With players from seven countries taking part, the French definitely put the "International" into their annual Open!

Second event off the rank each year is the Italian Open, held this year for the third and final time at the Centanni course.
With this event clashing with major national events in other major European countries on the June long weekend, it was unable to attract as large an interest from International players, but this gave many young locals the chance to shine through.
Baroni Cosimo took the honours with Rastrelli Vanni and Baroni Simone taking 2nd and 3rd places.

The San Marino Open was held as few weeks later, but details have so far been sketchy.
What we can tell you is that Irelands Alan Hanlon took the honours in the mens division with a 6 over par 168 to retain his crown from 2006 in what were described as very difficult conditions whilst Liz Quinn added to her growing list of international titles with the ladies division.
