QUICK INTERVIEW WITH ELIA CASALI
Conducted during one of the San Marino supremo’s few quiet moments at Chia.
Q1. Are you tired?
I’m tired now but happy. I suppose I’m not physically tired but I’m certainly mentally tired – there have been so many minor matters – they all add up.
Q2. You succeeded in some marvellous fundraising for this championship?
My employers, the Bank, were very helpful to me and all the sponsors were extremely generous.
Q3. When do you travel home?
We leave tomorrow (Monday) night and I will return to work (back to reality!) on Wednesday.
Elia Casali
Q4. Your mother’s first shot of the day on Friday was rather good, wasn’t it?
Yes, I heard the commotion and came over to find out the source. I didn’t think it would be for my mother’s hole in one! It’s not her first hole in one either! She really enjoyed participating in the ladies event.
Q5. Did you enjoy your game of golf at Is Molas?
I hope people will forgive us since this was a Pitch and Putt weekend but I am also a keen golfer. It was a nice opportunity to play such a fabulous golf course and it gave us a rest from matters here.
Q6. You and Carlo have rendered Pitch and Putt a fantastic service with the presentation of this championship. How did the Farioli/Casali combination work?
It’s not always easy to deal with Carlo, it’s difficult to keep up with him, but his enthusiasm was infectious. He networks well. He gets on so well with people. We made a good team.
Q7. Why no Elia Casali on the San Marino team?
Basically, I didn’t have the time to practise and my game has suffered. I did play in one of the trials but it didn’t work out.
Q8. How is Pitch and Putt in San Marino?
My colleagues and I are still working on developing Pitch and Putt in San Marino. A few projects have been put forward to local authorities but progress is slow. San Marino continues to host its International Open at Cesenatico while some other Pitch and Putt competitions are held. FSMPP has 100 members.
Q9. What is the next international event in San Marino?
The San Marino Open will be held in Cesenatico on 28 – 29 June 2008. We hope to attract a lot of visitors from the other countries.
I have to go now to organise the Italy and France photo (another one of those myriad minor matters).
Thanks for all the work you have done. It has been a brilliant few days, a tribute to your efforts.
