WORLD INTERCLUB LEAGUE ROUND 3 WRAP.
Round 3 of the World Interclub League again brought us great team and individual performances and showed the tremendous competitive nature that develops as the season progresses.
Again, many games were won, or lost, by a single stroke with many teams broken hearted as they saw victory disappear after a promising effort.
In the Champions Division, Canberra International were concerned that their performance would not be good enough as they had their worst score of the season on the unusually hard and very fast greens. But win they did, and with Sant Cebria and Southern Cross having a tie, CI's position at the top of the table was further strengthened. NPPV now loom as the major danger to CI's hopes for the title of World Interclub champions.
In Division I, Stephen Carden's young team left the course feeling certain of victory after scoring a sensational 203, one of the best ever scores in WIL.
But they did not know that Ramon Carrera's mixture of youth and experience at Sant Jaume was also capable to lifting to great heights, and the Catalan Div II champions stormed home by one stroke. All teams in Division I played strongly and its worthy to note that Balyang's senior Dame, the 93 yr old Ivy Moller shot a 58.
In Division II, the high flying Tower Tee came back to the field and managed only a draw with an elated Valley View who were happy with the unexpected point.
The Vancouver Wedgies continued to creep forward with a very strong season best 213 and picked up two valuable wins whilst Southern Cross remained the only undefeated team in the division as some teams struggled to get full numbers to the course on time.
