MARÇAL MORE WINS IN CATALONIA

It's a second major international success for Catalonia within a week, this time at individual level. Marçal More, a member of the Catalan international side that famously defeated Ireland last weekend, carded a final round of 53 in II Catalan Open at the Hcp 1 course. This gave More, the leader heading into Sunday’s final round an eight par 54 hole aggregate of 8 under par 154. More's teammate at Platja d'Aro, Daniel Gimenez finished second, a single stroke behind after a closing 52. Josep Pellicer, a veteran of Catalonia's first match against Ireland back in 1997, shot a final round 51 to place third on six under, beating fellow home players Barto Jimenez, Javier Lopez and first round leader Marc Fortuny on a countback. Leading non Catalan was Australian Open champion Ian Farrelly (Ireland). Farrelly was joint seventh on five under. Former two-time Irish girls champion Tracey McGrath won the women’s event on a steady one over par (56, 52, 55), four shots clear of Catalan Marilyn Holmes.
