Course of the Month - Kulm Course, St. Moritz, Engadine, Switzerland

The Engadine has been known for more than 100 years as the golf paradise of the Alps, distinguished by an unequalled panorama and incomparable landscape characteristics. The Kulm Course St. Moritz is nestled harmoniously in the high alpine landscape, thus making Pitch and Putt there a unique experience.

Players discovered the Kulm Park as early as 1891 as a golfing landscape far out of the ordinary. The oldest golf course in the Alps soon gained international fame and thus became the meeting place for those wishing to improve their handicap.

The St. Moritz golf architect Mario Verdieri and the Kulm Hotel drew up a new concept for the historic greens in 2001 and brought the course up to date for today's needs. Nestled in the captivating Engadine mountain landscape, the new 9-hole golf is both appealing and demanding. The site, one of the highest in Europe, now has a course uniting the original landscape with high-tech architecture.

The Kulm course is affiliated to the Swiss Pitch and Putt Association. Last September SPPA organised the first Pitch and Putt Challenge on this course. Kulm also hosted the Swiss National Championship in 2006. For this championship Kulm installed new Tee boxes to shorten the course length. The next Pitch and Putt Challenge will be organised at Kulm on 13th September 2009.

The par 27 course and its practice range, with 16 teeing grounds and two putting greens, offers both beginners and experts challenges enhanced by the magnificent view of the lake and the beautiful high valley of the Engadine.

For improving the short game, there is a practice area with a putting green, a bunker and fairway from which to make approach shots of up to 60m (65yds).

An integral part of the offerings of the Kulm Hotel St. Moritz is the Golf Academy, where experienced players can improve their handicap and beginners can discover the fascination of precision Pitch and Putt. Our qualified pros give individual instruction to each student and make use of state-of-the-art technical and audiovisual aids.

This course is located in the grounds of Kulm Hotel (www.kulmhotel-stmoritz.ch) at the Kulm Park within 5 minutes walk from the Hotel, at 1,860m/6,100 feet above sea level. Guests of the Kulm Hotel will have the opportunity to play this fabulous and unique course and will have free use of the practice range, putting green and 50% discount on green fees.

Every year from spring until autumn there is the Golf & Art exhibition on the Kulm course with sculptures from different artists.

The Clubhouse Chesa al Parc, a spacious building combines sporty elegance with the rustic charm of local architecture. The restaurant is the popular meeting point for golfers both before and after their game. On sunny days, the large terrace is the place to have a leisurely drink, a coffee or a snack. The home-made cakes and the varied daily menus are famous.
