Course of the Month - Wolvega, Netherlands.

Pitch & Putt Golf Wolvega (or Wolverhampton) is located in Victoria Park, known as the centre of the Dutch equestrian sports. The racecourse Drafcentrum Wolvega is located in the town of Wolvega in the Friesland province of The Netherlands. The location of the Pitch and Putt Course makes this situation unique in the Netherlands. Following the example of the oldest golf course in Europe (Musselburgh, Scotland), the Pitch and Putt Course of Wolvega is also inside the racetrack.

That model is replicated at a number of Irish courses. Gowran, Leopardstown and Ross (Killarney) Golf clubs all feature in the infield of racecourses. The fine Bellewstown Pitch and Putt course is inside's Bellewstown's racecourse.

On the morning of Sunday, December 4th 2011, Wolvega (Wolverhampton) was chosen as the training location for the preliminary selection of the Dutch team for the World Cup next year, a huge honour for the club.

"The course is great," said top player Rolf Kwant. Coach Rinus Huberts went even further, "We can even do a demonstration in the evening between the races. There's enough light on holes 1 and 2." The training session was a roaring success.

Wolvega is now the nearest Dutch Pitch and Putt course to the original Koekange course, just 35 kilometres away. Two other courses close by are Kraggenburg and Oostvold.

Sixteen couples were in action on Saturday 11 December 2011 in the inaugural competition at Wolvega. Some members of the Dutch team contested a pairs tournament. Despite rain the whole week leading up to the event, the course was in lovely playing condition. The field teed-off at half past ten in beautiful weather. The combination of Mient Kobes from Leeuwarden and Rolf Mulder from Bakkeveen were the winners. Pre tournament favourites, Joep van Mourik (EPPA Board member) and Netherlands international Rolf Kwant, finished second in the standings.
