Course of the Month - Hørsholm, Denmark.

This month we again feature one of the newest members of the Pitch and Putt community as we introduce Hørsholm as our Course of the Month.
A team from Hørsholm has played, very well, in this years World Interclub League.

The town of Hørsholm is situated on the island of Zealand about 25 kms north of Copenhagen. The local area is basically flat rolling farm land with forests and small lakes.
From some parts of the course you can see Sweden, 10 km away over the water.
Elsinore Castle, known from William Shakespeare's tragedy Hamlet, is situated just 20 km north, and the Danish queen’s summer residence, Fredensborg Castle, is only 5 km away.
The area is rich with tradition and atractions, including the museum of well known Danish author Karen Blixen (Out of Africa ) - 5 mins down the road at Rungsted.
For thsoe interested in dropping in for a hit during the northern summer months, the reasonably priced 100 bed, Hotel Rungstedgaard (next door to the Karen Blixen museum) is very nice, it has a great view over the water to Sweden and is just 2 mins from Rungsted harbour which in the summer is packed with high class restaurants and cafes.

The Hørsholm Pitch and Putt club is a part of Hørsholm Golf Club. The clubhouse is an old renovated straw thatched farm house, with an excellent restaurant.
There is a driving range that is open to all and a new elite pitch practicing area has been completed this year and will be open for next year.

Hørsholm Golf Club was first opened in 1995, the 9 hole Pitch and Putt course was then opened 2 years later in 1997.
The Pitch and Putt course was made originally for new beginners to golf, it is also used for company days. The course is also visited by the Danish National football team, when the team needs a relaxing moment away from football, such players as Michael Laudrup, Brian Laudrup and Peter Schmeichel have enjoyed happy moments at the Hørsholm course.

Surrounded by trees the course has been made very difficult to score well on due to the small upturned saucer like greens. The holes measure between 39 and 88 meters. Most of the holes have a grass tee and Out of Bounds comes into play on 7 of the 9 holes and the greens are protected by stratigically placed bunkers.

The 59 metre 8th hole is considered the most difficult, many good scores have been destroyed by this short demanding hole. The tee shot has been made difficult due to the trees placed on the right, any tee shot to the left hand side of the green will roll down a bank and with a very deep bunker placed in front of the small green it is very hard to hit - any backspin and you find yourself in the very deep bunker, with out of bounds just behind the green this bunker shot has to be performed with great precision, even hitting the green with your tee shot you still have to be very careful, as any overhit putt can also roll down into the bunker.

The club has been trying to make the course even better, so next year the course will be extended to 18 holes, the holes lengths will conform to the FIPPA measurements.
Due to the weather conditions in Denmark ( season from mid April til October) the tees will all be artificial, this will help with maintaining the quality of the course.
Plans for the future include holding a Danish Open as well as International matches.
