Course of the Month - Teia, Catalonia, Spain.
The Teia course is located 15km north of Barcelona in the Maresme area. Whilst the course opened in 2004, it took nearly a decade from the time earliest bids were called until the first shot was played.
The Teià course reflects the characteristics of the Maresme area. Small hills facing the sea, mild climate all year round, close to the big city. The course offers very different holes and is both interesting and difficult to play. Teia was built to conform to the latest environmental standards and uses only recycled water.
The course is set up for both local Catalan distances (1413m) as well as the International distances (1198m) with local tournaments being played over both distances.
In its short existence Teia has become a favourite on the International circuit, mainly due to is scenic location and the tough challenging nature of the course.
In March 2004 the inaugural Teia International was held with honours going to Irishman William Buckley who still holds the course record over the International standard with a magnificent 48.
In March 2006 the 2nd World Cup was successfully held at Teia with 13 countries represented and the home side winning its 2nd successive World Cup.The best strokeplay round in that competition was a 49 by Irish star, Sean Downes.
In the Catalan Strokeplay Championships held at the course in 2006, Marc Lloret set the course record for local distances when he shot a blistering 49 becoming one of a small group of players to break 50 at the course.
Teia is a must course to play on for any Pitch and Putt fan visiting Barcelona and is fast developing a reputation as one of the toughest Pitch and Putt courses in the world.
