Course of the Month - Portal del Roc, Barcelona, Catalonia.
When the players in the FIPPA Seniors tournament step out onto the course next month they will be playing on one of the most stunning Pitch and Putt courses in the world, a course with tremendous variety and challenge, a course in a beautiful setting.
For the rest of us, we can merely look at the photos below with envy.
If you are ever in the Barcelona area, Portal del Roc is a must on your playing schedule.
Here is what Martin Whitelaw has to say about the course...
"A visit to Portal del Roc is always a memorable experience. First impressions are rarely wrong, and here the immediate impact is of a course in impeccable condition. Everything about the Pitch & Putt club; the quality of the grass, the facilities, the attention to details tells you that you’re at one of the most attractive courses in the Country, and you’re definitely going to enjoy the experience."
"The course opened in December 1999 in a location overlooking the town of Vilanova I la Geltrú allowing fabulous views of the Mediterranean as a backdrop."
"The Catalan course is 1.495 meters long and with demanding FIPPA length Tee boxes. One is impressed with the great variety of holes offering fast, noble Greens demanding a high degree of precision from the Tee and approach shots. Players also appreciate the comfort of the clubhouse, the cosy bar for relaxation, the quality of the restaurant, not to mentioned standard of the Pro-Shop."
"Regular players particularly appreciate the practice facilities with a generous Range, illuminated during the winter. The shaped Putting Green allows one to sharpen up with those tricky downhill and uphill Putts. Even the practice bunker is a replica of the type of sand traps dotted around the course."
"Portal de Roc is deservedly referred to as a technical course, demanding a variety of shot techniques including “draws”, “fades, more and sometimes less lob. Depending on the pin positions, especially with a strong breeze, precision play is the name of the game."
"Finally, we would recommend you to reflect on your game at the terrace bar, or for that matter, treat yourself to the popular barbeque lunch at the weekends. "
