Course of the Month - Fornells, Catalonia, Spain.

In the village of Fornells de la Selva, only minutes away from the centre of Girona in the north of Catalonia and 100Km from the French border we have a beautiful Pitch & Putt course called ‘Fornells’. Ideally accessible per motorway, train and road, the course is situated between the woodlands and farms close to the city and offers a sense of tranquillity and peacefulness, not to mention the spectacular views of the mountains and forests surrounding the ancient city.

The course which opened in the month of April 2003 was renowned for it’s technically modern construction, using grasses which necessitated a minimum amount of irrigation. The design and the shaping of the course was cleverly planned to direct any rain water directly to the lake in the middle of the course. In fact the entire project was based on minimising any environmental impact. As a consequence – for example; only a fifth of the 100,000 square metres requires irrigation.

The land is divided up allowing parking for 150 cars, a service area for reception, administration and shop, a club house of 144 m2 and a lovely terrace. The Practice Range of a generous length of 260m is illuminated and the Putting Green allows one to practice all kinds of tricky shots. The course itself with 18 holes between 58 and 111m has a total length of 1.475 metres, and the first nine hole are also illuminated for night time playing. The first holes are considered short, flat, though well protected, others include the inevitable water hazards and the final holes are long and rather hilly. Fornells offers Pitch & Putt fans a course to suit all tastes; the classic, the demanding FIPPA design and the possibility to play after sunset.

The Fornells website can be found here...
